Looks like it's time for a new party. Hopefully one that pairs sound policy on the environment with fair small business principles. Maybe even a bit less appetite for military adventurism. I know it sounds crazy, but one can hope.

I would just point out that if the people who answered that poll were actually being honest, Republicans would never even be close to ever winning a national election.

I would bet that over half of "Independents" are Republicans who for whatever reason won't admit it, even to an anonymous poll or perhaps themselves. There are of course Independents that are really Democrats, but not as nearly as many. The smallest group of Independents are probably actual Independents.

I know the other reason Republicans stay competetive is that the vast amount of people who don't vote come from the Lowest and Second Tiers.

TWood,

In 2008, Obama won the Independent vote, 52 to 44. In 2012, Obama lost the Independent vote 45 to 50. See http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/special/politics/2012-exit-polls/table.html.

Independent voters it would appear are actually independent.
