US Drought Map for Week of April 14

The map above shows the Palmer Drought Severity Index map for the US as of the week of April 14th, 2012.  Texas is back to normal, but parts of the south east are in the grip of severe or extreme drought, and much of the interior south-west is in moderate to severe drought.  If this were to continue, these regions are at risk of problems later in the summer.

Here in Ithaca we just had a late season snow storm, which hit hard many of the trees that had leafed out early due to the mild winter and heat wave in March.  There were trees down all over the place when I drove into town this morning.
